Nice to meet you!

I'm Becca! I believe in asking questions, leaving things better than I found them, and the Oxford comma. Currently, I am a big fan of iced lattes with oat milk, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and reading web comics from my favorite artists. My first chapbook, small wings, just launched, and I am celebrating by trying to learn how to make my initials into a cool signature.

I am looking for a job where I can put my creativity and eye for detail to use! Namely, doing editing/proofreading/layout work for a publisher, running social media accounts, or otherwise applying my writing skills. You can find more of my relevant experience listed below, as well as my full resume. If you're interested in working with a perfectionist who loves to laugh — or you're looking for someone to read a first draft, to play video games with, or to share favorite coffee spots with — feel free to get in touch!

Work Experience

November 2021 - Present

January 2021 - May 2021

August 2020 - December 2020

August 2019 - May 2020

As a Freelance Writer and Editor, I am following SimpleTense Education's guidelines to write, edit, and proofread essays, stories, and other assignments. I communicate professionally with clients and admin, and I work independently to meet deadlines.

As the Senior Editorial Assistant at SRPR (Spoon River Poetry Review), I spent this semester of my graduate assistantship at Illinois State University leading a small team to revamp the journal's social media presence. I designed and edited posts in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Spark for Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. I also acted as a liaison between authors and staff as we launched our IGTV series.

As a Creative Writing Instructor, I spent this semester of my graduate assistantship at Illinois State University remotely teaching Introduction to Creative Writing (ENG 227). I prepared lessons focused on underrepresented voices in writing; created unit schedules for poetry, fiction, and nonfiction; recorded PowerPoint presentations weekly; organized student workshops; graded students' worksheets, reflections, edits, and portfolios; and provided timely responses to students via Outlook and Zoom.

As a Graduate Assistant at the Publications Unit at Illinois State University, I provided cleaning, editing, layout, design, and proofreading work for ISU-affiliated publications — including Fiction Collective 2 book Out of Nowhere Into Nothing by Caryl Pagel and Obsidian: Literature & Arts in the African Diaspora vol. 45.2. I also worked with Adobe Creative Cloud programs InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, and Premiere Rush; designed posters for readings and guest speaker events; edited videos of in-person events; designed, wrote, and edited posts for Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter; and attended weekly in-person meetings for professional development.
